Lightning sparks two range fires

VALE — Lightning sparked two new range fires Wednesday night, one near Vale and the other blaze near Jordan Valley.

The 1,430 Overlook Fire is burning 21 miles southwest of Jordan Valley and is about 50 percent contained according to the BLM.

Part of the Overlook Fire is burning into the Owyhee Canyon, complicating firefighting efforts. The Overlook Fire is about 50 percent contained. As of this morning, nine fire engines, one bulldozer and a fire crew are working on the fire.

The Dry Creek blaze, situated 32 miles southwest of Vale, scorched five acres before it was extinguished. The BLM deployed one fire engine, one helicopter and one fire crew to the Dry Creek Fire.
