Lawrence Edward Ziemer
July 23, 1942 – July 22, 2017
Lawrence E. Ziemer passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and friends late in the evening July 22, 2017.
Lawrence was born to Clifford and Dorothy (Hickey) Ziemer of St. Helens, Oregon.  He grew up in Deer Island, Oregon, with his parents and siblings Maurice Ziemer, Clifton Ziemer and Janice Preheim.
Lawrence attended high school in St. Helens and served in the National Guard shortly after graduation. He married his loyal wife of 53 years, Christine M. Clark. Lawrence resided in St Helens with his wife and children (until 1982) and worked in the construction trade throughout Columbia County for many decades.
Lawrence was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing a passion he passed down to his children and grandchildren.  Upon moving to Rainier he bought a farm, raised cattle and hay and took to the logging trade.  In 1998 Lawrence, who always loved Eastern Oregon, decided to buy a few properties in the Nyssa-Adrian area and took his hand at farming.  He loved raising cattle and farming until he retired in 2007.
Lawrence had a zest for life.  He was a very hard worker, strong leader and honest businessman. He left a legacy of his morals, ethics and values in his children and grandchildren.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Christine (Clark) Ziemer; daughter Andrea (Ziemer) Buchholz; and grandchildren Joshua L. Buchholz, Amanda (Will) DeVos, Breona (Jacob) Hamilton and Zachary E. Ziemer.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Deann C. Ziemer and son Darrin E. Ziemer.
Lienkaemper Chapel of Ontario will conduct the graveside service Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. in Owyhee Cemetery, Nyssa. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 5 at the St. Helens Elks Lodge.


Mary Jeannette (Roberts) Palmer
February 19, 1949 – July 14, 2017
Mary Jeannette (Roberts) Palmer, 68, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends July 14th, 2017. Mary was born February 19th, 1949 to Blanche and Verne Roberts. She was the last of 14 children to be born. Mary spent much of her life in this general area. For Mary, home was the ranch in Little Valley. She attended the Harper School District for as many days as her mother could get her there. She married Eldon (Dick) Palmer on June 11th, 1966. They traveled to Winnemucca, NV with family for the ceremony. Mary spent the next several years raising their two children, Margie (Palmer) Weatherby and Eldon R. Palmer Jr. She enjoyed numerous hunting and camping trips. She took great pride in her family and enjoyed her time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mathew, Mandy, and Katie Weatherby. Michael, Jason, Jordan, Jayden, and Jocelyn Palmer, and Niketa Parsons. Mary also had 4 great grandchildren, Mary, Anna, Nathaniel and Tyler, all of which she adored. Mary spent much of her life working for various local restaurants. If you’ve had coffee or breakfast in Vale over the past 30 to 40 years, chances are, you spent some time with her. Mary was preceeded in death by her husband, Eldon (Dick) Palmer; mother, Blanche; father, Verne Roberts; a sister, Harriet, who died soon after birth; brothers, Don, Jimmie, Duane, Larry Gene and Billy Roberts; a grandson, Jason Palmer; two great nephews and many in-laws that meant the world to her. She was survived in death by her daughter and son in law, Margie and Lee Weatherby; son and daughter in law, Eldon (Rick) and Carma Palmer; grandchildren, Matt, Mandy, and Katie Weatherby, Nikita Parsons, Michael Jordon, Jayden and Jocelyn Palmer; brothers, John and Gary Roberts and the sisters, Linda (Thode) Smith, Margaret Tuttle, Jomay Hood and Verna (Pug) Viktora, and many nieces, nephews and greats, all of which she adored. Family and friends are invited to join the family in a graveside memorial on Friday, August 4th, 2017 at 11:00 am with a potluck gathering at the Vale City Park afterwards.
