Phoebe “Helen” Bayless, 89 of Reno Nevada went to be with the Lord on Saturday March 26, 2016 while at St. Mary’s Hospital. A memorial service was held on Friday April 8th at Bracewell-Newton Funeral Home in Chico California. Helen was laid to rest at Lawncrest Cemetery in Redding, California, with her husband, Marvin “Bill” Bayless.

Helen was born on August 25, 1926 to Charles and Nettie Ingram in Vale Oregon, one of eleven children. She was raised and educated in Malheur County, and spent much of her childhood years in the community of Watson on the Owyhee River with her family. At 16 she endeavored to join the military with her childhood friend Joe Beach, and fly cargo planes for the US Army Air Corp. Upon discovering her real age she was dismissed, and escorted home by her brother Robert Ingram. She married James Ray Carey in 1945 and settled in Redding, California in 1953.

Having been raised with brothers who were boxers, she learned how to defend herself. And while she wouldn’t hesitate to break a nose if threatened, she was also kind, giving, full of good advice and always ready for an adventure. The best of which she discovered with her 11 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life.

Helen is survived by her three children; Charles Carey of Reno, Nevada; Linda Lindauer of Kelseyville, California; and Carol Waltos of San Miguel California, and her 11 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
