Eighteen schools, ranging from 1A through 4A in classification, participated in the Don Walker Memorial Track Meet hosted by Nyssa High School last Friday, April 1.
As many as 80 athletes per event competed in nearly perfect weather. The Emmett boys garnered 124.5 points and Emmett’s girls had 113.5 for team wins at the meet.
Nyssa finished second on both sides of the meet, the boys with 72 points and the girls with 101.
Other local teams on the boys’ side were Ontario, in fifth with 65.5; Adrian in seventh at 62; 9. Harper, ninth with 21; and Vale, 10th with 18.5.
As for the girls, Ontario also hit fifth with 72.14, followed by Adrian, in sixth with 57; Vale, 10th with 20.14; and Harper in 13th with 6.
Among the locals garnering points for their respective teams was Nyssa’s Justin Simpson. He placed second in the 100 meters (11.64) and 200 meters (23.24).
Collin Ball of Ontario also placed high in the 1,500 meters, with a second-place time of 4:33.47, and then won the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:49.26.
The Tigers’ 4×100 relay team of Marcus Delgado, Keegan Susuki, Reyes Romayor and Alex Espinoza crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 45.30.
Adrian’s relay team of Wes White, Pau Roget, Bryson Shira and Reagan Shira won the 4×400 relay in a time of 3:30.75. R. Shira also had a second in the 300-meter hurdles clocked at 42.30.

Chikote Buckway of Vale threw the javelin 165-03 to finish second.
Harper’s Greg Chandler cleared 6-4 to win the high jump.
Simpson scored in two field events to add points to the Bulldogs’ tally. He jumped 21-4 on the long jump and 39-11.50 in the triple jump for second place in each.
Adrian’s R.Shira won the triple jump (43-03.50) and Nyssa’s Ramiro Duensas threw the discus the farthest a 121-11.
In the girls’ running events, the fastest times were recorded by Marisa Saldivar (O), 400-meters, 1:04.84; Delia Deleon (N), 800-meters, 2:31.52; Deleon (N), 1500-meters, 5:15.18; Holly Bertram (O), 3000-meters, 12:20.54: Logan Davila (O), 300-meter hurdles, 49.57 and 100 hurdles, 17.17. Morgan Bayes of Adrian finished second in the 200-meter dash in 28.28. Ontario’s 4×100 relay team of Abbey Wood, Taylee Larson, Saldivar and Davila finished second with a time of 52.55.
The teams will be a little more scattered this coming weekend as Nyssa is going to the Pulse Invitational at Centennial High School in Boise on Friday, April 8, and Ontario will be at the Baker Relays the same day. Vale, Harper and Adrian are scheduled for the Lions Invite in Burns Saturday, April 9.
