VALE — Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe wants area residents to get to know his office and its people a little better.
That’s why the sheriff’s office will host its annual 10-week citizen’s academy next month.
Now in its eighth year, the academy is a good way to build a stronger link between the sheriff’s office and the public, said Wolfe.
“We get to know people of the community better as we spend a couple of hours each week with them. The other side of it is citizens get to know what we do and why we do it,” said Wolfe.
The academy begins 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, and runs through Feb. 5. The academy will be held at the Malheur Education Service District, 363 A St. W.
Interested individuals must complete an application to the sheriff’s office and pass a background check. To apply, residents can call the sheriff’s office at 541-473-5126 or request an application through email at [email protected].
“People think that is too much of a time commitment and we understand people are busy but at the end of the 10 weeks they often say something like it was well worth the investment,” said Wolfe.
Vale City Manager Lynn Findley participated in the academy several years ago and said the program is a good one.
“It was very informative. All the divisions within the sheriff’s office participated. It was a worthwhile experience and I’ve thought about doing again,” said Findley.
