Softball team outscores foes by decisive margins on Vale diamond

The Vale softball team swept a home doubleheader last Friday, sending the visiting Wallowa Valley team home with two losses.

The Vikings bats powered to a 20-10 win in game one.

“Our offense really showed up today,” said Vale coach Kelly Johnson.

Johnson also cited Isabell Lastiri for a strong performance as the winning relief pitcher.

On the mound first, Amanda Trenkel held on for three innings, with seven runs, five strikeouts and six walks.

Lastiri went three more, allowing no hits, three strikeouts and two walks.

In game two, the Vikings again doubled up on Wallowa to win 14-7.

Kelsey Hawley, the winning pitcher, went seven innings, with seven runs, seven hits, 10 strikeouts and two walks.

“Mizuta, Trenkel, and Reever all had monster days at the plate,” said Johnson. “Gonzalez was 8 for 9 on base for the day.”

The Vikings were due to host Weiser on Monday and then travel to New Plymouth for a 5 p.m. game Wednesday, April 6.
