VALE – A longtime local business wants to thanks its customers – so it’s putting on a community event.

Malheur Drug, located on A Street West, will hold Customer Appreciation Day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.

“We are just trying to give back to the community. And it is important for us to acknowledge our customers and thank them for shopping with us and supporting us,” said Malheur Drug co-owner Adam Tolman.

Tolman, who operates the business with his wife Jennifer, said the Friday event will offer a host of different items for area residents. There will be storewide sales, activities for children, a free vision screening by the Vale Lions Club and a free blood pressure screening by Pioneer Place.

“It is something where we can offer sales, get people downtown,” Tolman said.

Tolman said Brian Wolfe, the Malheur County Sheriff, will be on hand to cater the event and will offer pulled pork and beef tenderloin sandwiches along with chips and salad for area residents.

Tolman said his business began the event a few years ago and it proved to be a success.

“We kind of made it a big event and decided, hey, this is kind of fun, let’s do it every year,” Tolman said.

Tolman said there will be prizes and giveaways at the Friday event.

“You show up and get tickets and put them toward whatever prize you want to win,” Tolman said.

Tolman said based on previous customer appreciation days, he expects a lot of people to be on hand. In the past, he said, the food is consumed quickly.

“We start serving around 11 and by 1:30 it is gone,” he said.

Tolman said the event is about celebrating Vale.

“It is a safe place and the community, it is a very giving community,” Tolman said.
