Twelve teams braved the frigid air at Harper last Friday, March 18, for the Diana Thurmond Memorial Track Meet.

By the time field events started at 11 a.m., it was 32 degrees. The sun stayed out all day, but an intermittent breeze kept athletes, coaches and fans from Adrian, Cove, Crane, Harper, Huntington, Imbler, Jordan Valley, Long Creek, Nyssa, Pine Eagle, Powder Valley and Vale from working on their tans.

Although team scores were not kept, individual results showed several local athletes excelling in their events.

Nyssa’s Kierra Hernandez won both the shot put and discus in the girls’ half of the meet, with distances of 31- 05.00 and 91-00, respectively. Kylee Skerjanec of Adrian won the high jump clearing 5’ and went 30-08.25 in the triple jump to place second.
