VALE – A benefit for the Kinard family will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Sagebrush Saloon.
Tickets are still available and the cost is $15.99 per person for a Tri-tip dinner. In addition to the dinner, a raffle will also take place.
All proceeds go to the family, who suffered a house fire this summer that killed one child died. Two family members remain hospitalized.
Also on the calendar in Vale:
• The public this weekend can view “Thunder Chicken 3: Iguana Go Home,” a film produced in the Drexel H. Foundation’s 2015 crash course on film making.
The occasion is the annual Children’s Film Festival, with the showing at 6:30 p.m. in the Rex Theater.
The fest showcases all the movies entered by the participants in the 2016 film course, held Sept. 14.
The cost to attend the film festival is $5 for kids and $7 for adults. Film-makers and participants in this year’s course get free tickets.
The program will also include a showing of the 1937 “lost reel” from Vale’s buy at home campaign, along with a presentation on how the reel was found and restored for digital viewing. Prizes will be awarded to film makers, including a Best of Show $100 award.
• The Warmsprings Irrigation District board usually meets on the second Tuesday of the month but is moving this month’s meeting to Tuesday, Sept. 20. The meeting will start at 8 p.m. at 334 Main St. N. On the agenda: water reports and other business.
• The Vale City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at City Hall.
• The Pioneer Nursing Home board meets at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the board room.
• The Vale Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly lunch on Thursday, Sept. 22, with Louise Schneider of the Department of Human Services speaking about the need for foster parents and Darlene McConnell speaking about coming school bond measures. The meeting will be at noon at Vale City Hall, with lunch from the Miracle Eatery.
