Walden plans town hall in Jordan Valley

U.S. Rep. Greg Walden will make a swing through Eastern Oregon this weekend, stopping in Jordan Valley for a town hall meeting on Sunday, April 3.

The session starts at 1:30 p.m. at Jordan Valley High School.

He is expected to hear concerns about the proposal to create a 2.5 million acre Owyhee Canyonlands national monument.

Walden has urged federal officials, including Interior Secretary Sally Jewll and Forest Service Regional Forester Jim Pena, to heed the voices of local communities affected by such decisions.

Walden also will hold meetings in Klamath Falls, Lakeview, Enterprise and Pendleton.

Malheur Sheriff Brian Wolfe, speaking last week at the Vale Chamber of Commerce meeting, urged the public to turn out and voice their concerns about the proposed Owyhee monument.

Wolfe also invited the public to an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, featuring attorney Laura Schroder on water rights and Constitutional attorney John Howard, on the U.S. Constitution and public lands.

The April 4 meeting will be in the Treasure Valley Community College gymnasium in Ontario. It is free, but donations will be accepted to defray the speaker costs.
